Our chocolates

come with smarts

You may have questions, so we have answers. We’re not only dedicated to making high quality cannabinoid-infused chocolate, but also in making sure that the more you learn about it, the better you feel about it. If you don’t find what you’re looking for, let us know how we can help.

Start slow, eat responsibly

Edibles provide a needed (and often preferred) delivery method for those uninterested in smoking. Keep in mind that everyone’s metabolism is different, which means the edibles’ effects vary. Grön recommends that you—whether you’re a recreational user or medical patient—start with a low THC dose and wait up to two hours to figure out how the infused product affects you. And, of course, eating responsibly also means abstaining from alcohol or controlled substances while enjoying a Grön chocolate.

How to Enjoy

Any tips for before eating my Grön chocolate?

First things first: enjoy how the chocolate melts on your tongue. Because of how awesome and natural it is to swirl silky chocolate around in your mouth, you’re also allowing for sublingual and buccal absorption of the THC. The cacao’s natural butter fat, the pure oil distillate, and the inside of your mouth create a trifecta to elevate the whole edible’s effects.

How can I ensure a pleasant experience?

If it’s your first time, start with a single serving size (5mg or less). If you’re wondering about a suitable environment, we suggest a relaxed, familiar setting—especially if you’re after the psychoactive effects from more than a single serving of THC. On the other hand, a small dose of THC or CBD is reported to reduce social anxiety.

Will your chocolate
make me feel sexy?

Why, yes. It's not called a super food for nothing. You can even argue—and some of us do every day—that chocolate is an aphrodisiac, elisir d'amore, food of the gods, a tongue ceremony, and a dance party in your mouth. It’s a joy adventure that connects real-life to dreams and the stars in the sky. Chemically speaking, pure raw cacao contains antioxidants and the bliss chemical called anandamide. So, in conclusion, a Grön chocolate can make you feel very sexy.

Any combination of foods I should consider while eating a Grön chocolate?

Grön chocolates are safe with all your favorite foods. Also, hydrate. “Like Water for Chocolate” isn’t only a movie about forbidden love. It’s also a reminder to drink lots of water while ingesting edibles. And please don’t drink alcoholic beverages while consuming your Grön chocolates.

Where or how should I store my chocolate?

We highly recommend storing Grön chocolate on your tongue for a minute or two. When not in use, the ideal temperature for keeping chocolate is between 60F and 70F in a dry area. A higher temperature may cause a whitish color to appear, which is called fat bloom. Lower temperatures are less troublesome because of how the chill keeps cocoa butter tightly bound. Also keep in mind that ambient moisture or humidity isn’t friendly to chocolate because the sugar content absorbs moisture, which will eventually cause the sugar to bloom.

What to Expect

How long does it take to feel the effects of Grön chocolate?

Our chocolates can take anywhere from 20 to 90 minutes before effects are felt. Onset time is directly related to the digestive process, which means eating them on an empty stomach results in faster activation.

How long do the effects last?

The effects associated with ingested cannabis last anywhere from 4 to 8 hours.

What are the feel-good effects of a Grön chocolate?

With a THC-infused chocolate, most experience more of a body high rather than a head high. Because the cannabinoids are absorbed by digestion, the onset time is delayed compared to smoking or vaping. On the other hand, the psychoactive effects of edibles last longer and are more intense than other consumption methods.

Is there a benefit to eating a Grön bar versus smoking various strains of cannabis?

When buying cannabis buds in flowered form, you’re getting specific strains. With Grön oils, you’re getting pure THC (or CBD or a ratio of both), allowing THC’s psychoactive effects to be absorbed into the body through a combination of oral mucosal and ingestion. By letting the chocolate melt in your mouth, the cannabinoid molecules are more efficiently absorbed and metabolized.

Are edibles stronger than other consumption methods?

From a physiological standpoint, edibles are more intense because of how the THC is converted to the more psychoactive 11-hydroxy-THC by the liver. This compound is roughly 5 to 10 times stronger than what you’d get from smoking cannabis.

How Much

How much should I eat?

Some people like to draw a parallel between a 5mg serving of Grön chocolate and a glass of wine: It affects some people, and others not at all. The idea is to start with a small amount and wait until you've learned what is right for you.

Can you be more specific by giving me an example?

If you’re new to cannabis, start with a small dosage of 1-5mg until you’re familiar with how your body digests and responds to the effects. Occasional consumers tend to enjoy a serving size of 10mg or less. Frequent consumers of edibles—or medical patients—recognize their high tolerances which allow them to consume higher doses.

What is the standard for a single serving in milligrams?

From an Oregon regulatory standpoint, a single-serving edible can contain up to 5mg of THC (up to 50mg per package).

Can I overdo it?

Like anything else, overdoing it makes for an unpleasant experience. For THC-infused edibles, we recommend you start with a serving size of 5mg of THC and wait for up to two hours. Frequent consumers or those with high tolerances or medical needs will likely need dosages of at least 10mg of THC.

Cannabis Science

How can a cannabis-infused chocolate taste so good?

Ahh thanks! Because we never felt comfortable compromising the nuanced complexities of chocolate’s 400+ flavor compounds, we embraced the advances of pure distillated THC/CBD oil. The cannabinoid oils we use are flavorless: They go beyond CO2 extraction methods and set us apart from other cannabis-edible makers. Their purity explains a lot about the deliciousness of our bars and bites—and how our chocolates make so many people smile.

What is CO2 extraction and distillated oil, and how do they make a difference?

CO2 extraction is worlds away from old-school cannabis butter. CO2 extraction is an increasingly common process that separates plant matter into individual components. But wait: Grön chocolates take CO2 extraction a giant step further by using only the concentrated THC and CBD that have been distilled into oil vapor. These flavorless oils—free of terpenes, chlorophyll, plant matter, and solvent remnants—ensure outstanding consistency across taste, potency and effect.

What is the right CBD to THC ratio?

There’s no right or wrong ratio, but we’re believers in our Grön 1:1 and 4:1 bars. CBD and THC are the power couple of cannabis therapeutics: they work well together, interacting just so to bring out their best curative qualities. CBD can dramatically enhance THC’s painkilling and anticancer properties, while lessening its psychoactive effects.

What does cannabinoid mean in relation to THC and CBD?

Cannabinoid is a class of chemical compounds that alter neurotransmitter release in the brain. The most well-known cannabinoids include THC, CBD, CBN and THCa, but Grön bars, bites and bits are only available with THC and CBD. Cannabinoids have different effects based on which receptors they bind to.

Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC):
THC gives you a psychoactive high. Research suggests THC may alleviate pain, symptoms associated with PTSD, reduce nausea, treat glaucoma, mitigate insomnia, reduce anxiety, and fight cancer.

Cannabidiol (CBD):
CBD has non-psychoactive properties. Studies indicates CBD may reduce inflammation, fight cancer symptoms, alleviate depression and anxiety, and mitigate seizures and epilepsy. Keep in mind that CBD oil is often used characterize any oil where cannabidiol is the primary active ingredient.

Sustainability

What does Clean Green certified mean?

Clean Green is the industry’s certifier for cannabis that’s been cultivated using sustainable, natural and organically-proficient practices. The Clean Green certified program was formed in 2004 as a way to regulate legal cannabis production using proven organic methods. No matter how environmentally friendly the marijuana growing practices are, the plant isn’t recognized at a federal level by the USDA or its organic designation; a USDA certified organic food label requires federal approval.

Why should Fair Trade matter?

The Fair Trade movement is important environmentally, socially, and economically. Its motivation is to ensure that third-world farmers are getting a fair wage for the crops they grow and sell. Historically, so little of what first-world consumers pay for coffee, cocoa and bananas reaches the people who produce the raw goods. With the Fair Trade system, the partnership between consumers and producers works toward a more equitable and fair guarantee. Meanwhile, it’s up to all of us to keep asking how businesses—from harvest to shipment to sale—treat people.

Is Grön a bean-to-bar chocolate maker?

We’re not. We leave the cultivation and harvest of farm-fermented cacao beans to the people who’ve been doing so for generations. Cocoa’s sustainability depends on an ecologically complex and fragile canopy—as well as the communities who do the sorting, cracking, winnowing, conching, and aging.

Your packaging is nice, but how environmentally friendly is it?

Thank you. Our packaging is 100% biodegradable; we strive to make little waste and minimal impact on the environment. The inks we use are non-toxic and vegetable-based. We also adhere to stringent state child-resistant requirements.
